Episode 10 of Matt and Sol’s Favourite Things is online and ready for your eyes and ears. This one features a little project me and Sol got up to on the weekend. Other important things to watch out for: Sol is wearing a shirt I bought him in Holland and I have grown a rather disturbing beer-gut. I’d better cut down on my pork-life and get some exercise. So without further ado:
I’ve uploaded Matt and Sol’s Favourite Things 09 only a month and a half after the event. I recorded all of this in late May but somehow just haven’t had the time or energy to edit it and upload. Perhaps it was the drama of Felicity being very sick for a few weeks. Anyway, here it is: the topic is Felicity’s birthday and in case you can’t catch the text in the opening credits, it goes: “Set phasors to stun”, “It’s”, “Matt and Sol’s Favourite Things”. I set the interval on my timelapse thing a little high and didn’t leave room to write on a clear background.
The music behind the slideshow is Leo Kotte : Buckaroo and comes from a best of album that I was given for my 21st birthday. (Who gave me that? Was it Tim? Dad?)
You asked for it and here it is! Episode 08 of Matt and Sol’s Favourite Things:
Music was the usual Coltrane intro and then Ben Kweller, Run. There was also a cameo by my Mum’s hands and arm. And did any of you catch the unusual gingerbread creatures we made towards the end?
Here’s the latest Matt and Sol’s Favourite Things in which we sit in the tree house and talk about Super Mario Galaxy and Sol’s upcoming birthday. We recorded this a week or two ago and we already have another one in the pipeline so stay tuned.
Music is John Coltrane’s Favourite Things and They Might Be Giants Birdhouse in Your Soul.
Episode 6 of Matt and Sol’s Favourite Things: Trampoline with Montage is available on YouTube. This was recorded on 1st of Jan but I sat on it for a weeks because I have been watching too much BSG trying to catch up to season 4. This episode is dedicated to Barack Obama (Yes I know it’s Australia Day but I’m more excited about Obama to be honest).
One more thing, I finally bought a video camera so the quality is a lot better. Now I just have to learn how to make a decent family documentary short film.
After a week of storms which devastated some suburbs of Brisbane (but left our place untouched) we had a weekend of strong dry winds. I had wanted to make a kite with Sol but decided it would be a project for an older child and then I had the idea of pinwheels. I located some garden stakes and stiff craft paper and a few other bits and pieces and we made pinwheels which Sol and I quite enjoyed.
Soundtrack is John Coltrane Favourite Things and The Wiggles Shakin’ Like a Leafy Tree. Also thanks to Vincent Van Gogh for the endorsement.

In this episode: Title sequence with music from John Coltrane, Sol talks about where he likes to drive in daddy’s car and Matt still hasn’t had a haircut.

Episode 2 of Matt and Sol’s favourite things (Robot edition) is available. The highlight is some animation using stop motion and a rubbery robot toy.
The spoken part of the video was produced using the Macbook’s iSight webcam. The animated clip was made in iStopMotion by importing 110 photos from my Pentax K100D DSLR. I perched the DSLR above a white background holding it still with a cardboard frame in which I cut a hole for the camera lens to poke through. The white balance is very bad possibly because I covered one of the camera’s sensors, I’m not sure. I fixed it up a little bit in iMovie which also cropped it rather heavily. I’ll have to sort out the aspect ratio so I get something compatible with Youtube for future efforts. I also looped some of the sequences in iMovie to flesh it out a bit because I only had about 9 seconds total at 12 fps.
Soundtrack is “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” by Daft Punk (but off the Discovery album, not the Alive album as I may have misled you to believe)
Sol and I have started a TV show on YouTube called Matt and Sol’s Favourite Things. It will be a reviews kind of show and just something fun so that we can have lots of footage of Sol to use at his twenty first.
